It
was my husband, Don who brought me my first piece of flagstone and
encouraged me to be creative with it. That was back in 1997 and I
have favored flagstone ever since. No two pieces of stone are ever
alike in color, shape, or texture. I regard flagstone as the “earth’s
natural canvas.” The stone itself might be cold to the touch
but each completed painting warms my soul. The desert southwest is
a constant inspiration to me as well as Native-American folklore and
culture. Although it is not my heritage, I am drawn to it. The kokopelli
in particular is prominent in my paintings and thoughts. I regard
the kokopelli as my muse and often my amusement as well. Hopefully
the love for what I choose to do in life, and a bit of my humor comes
through in my art. Creating clocks came about at my husband’s
suggestion when we never could find exactly what we wanted to fit
our eclectic décor. All of the metal easels for my flagstone
paintings are hand constructed and painted by Don as well as the drilling
and insertion of the clockworks. I am blessed to have his full support
in all that I do. I have resided in Las Vegas since 1989 after having
left Southern California, but I was born in New York. I have been
married to my soulmate Don since 1985 and I am a proud full-time “dog-mom.”
I always take time to watch the “puppies” sleep and play!
Family, friends, and concerts are great diversions but my main priority
is spending quality time with Don since he must be out working hard
to put kibble in those large doggie bowls and to support his artist
wife. When I am not in my home studio painting, I can usually be found
(or heard!) working out while cranking out “Judas Priest”
or “Led Zeppelin.” Someday I hope to resume playing my
drums and find the time to learn to play my guitar or bass and we
can join a rock band and move to the U.K. and ride the Harley we hope
to own. But for now I will continue to do what brings me joy and that
is painting and loving and living in the moment.
